Neutrophils with Ring-Shaped Nuclei in Sepsis

Abstract

|
Neutrophil nuclei in rodents may mature by ring formation. Neutrophils with ring-
shaped nuclei were identified in blood and bone marrow of patients with
myeloproli-feratiue syndromes and chronic granulocytic leukemia and only rarely in
patients with toxemic granulocytosis and in healthy controls.
Recently authors experienced two cases of sepsis with prominent ring-shaped nuclei
in peripheral blood smear. These nuclear ring formation appeared to to significantly
related to granulocytic hyposegmentation. But a possible relationship might be too weak
to be demonstrated with the small cases.
